Biography

Cathy Marston (born 1975) is a British choreographer known for her ability to translate literary and biographical narratives into richly layered dance-theatre. She trained at The Royal Ballet School and began her career as a dancer before turning to choreography, initially in Switzerland, where she served as Artistic Director of Bern Ballet from 2007 to 2013. Her work is distinguished by its close collaboration with composers and designers and its skill at rendering complex psychological and emotional states through movement. She has created works for The Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and English National Ballet, among others. Her Royal Ballet commission The Cellist (2020), inspired by the life of Jacqueline du Pré and performed to music by Elgar, received widespread critical acclaim and won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance.
