Starstruck
About This Production
Starstruck is Scottish Ballet's glamorous two-act narrative ballet that brings together the golden age of Hollywood, the mythology of Mount Olympus, and the glittering world of Parisian ballet. Set to the sparkling music of George Gershwin, Maurice Ravel, and Frédéric Chopin performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, the work weaves a love story that mirrors the romantic tensions between mortal and immortal worlds.
The production was created in collaboration with Patricia Ward Kelly, the widow of Hollywood legend Gene Kelly, who worked with Scottish Ballet Artistic Director Christopher Hampson CBE to lovingly revive Kelly's original Pas de Dieux. The new extended two-act version builds on that foundation, juxtaposing the relationship between a Star Ballerina and a Choreographer against their mythological counterparts, Aphrodite and Zeus.
Designed by Lez Brotherston OBE, Starstruck delivers the visual opulence of a golden-age film musical translated to the ballet stage. This 2026 tour, described as the director’s cut, presents the most expansive and complete version of the work to date, visiting venues across Scotland including Theatre Royal Glasgow, Eden Court in Inverness, His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, and the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh.
