Don Quixote

One of the most joyful and dazzling ballets in the classical repertoire, Don Quixote takes its inspiration from episodes in Cervantes' great novel. The eccentric knight Don Quixote mistakes the spirited barmaid Kitri for his ideal Dulcinea, but the ballet's true heart belongs to Kitri and her beloved Basilio, whose comic tricks and brilliantly virtuosic dancing carry the story to a festive wedding finale. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to Minkus's vivid score in 1869, the ballet has become a showcase for technical bravura, featuring one of the most celebrated grand pas de deux in all of ballet.
