Biography
Dominique Larose is an American dancer who has built her entire professional career at Northern Ballet, joining the Leeds-based company in 2014 after completing the Academy of Northern Ballet's Graduate Professional Programme. Born and raised in San Francisco, she began dancing at age three and trained at the Ayako School of Ballet in California and Tanz Akademie Zürich before returning to Northern Ballet's own conservatoire pathway.
She rose through the company's ranks steadily, being promoted to First Soloist in 2019 and subsequently to Principal Dancer. That trajectory — from graduate programme to principal through Northern Ballet alone — is unusual and reflects both the depth of her investment in the company and the company's commitment to developing its own artists.
Larose is particularly associated with Northern Ballet's narrative repertoire. She has danced Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby — a role she first performed in 2019 and has since revived — as well as the title role in Cinderella, Beauty in Beauty and the Beast, Erina in The Little Mermaid, and Octavia in Cleopatra. She has also danced Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker and performed in Kenneth MacMillan's Concerto.
In interviews she has spoken about her belief in classical ballet as a form worth preserving, and has expressed a desire to dance the great classical ballerina roles — Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and Giselle — that she has not yet had the opportunity to perform. That combination of deep commitment to Northern Ballet's dramatic identity alongside a clear classical ambition places her among the company's most interesting senior artists.
