Cinders!
About This Production
Cinders! is Scottish Ballet’s playful, inclusive retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale, choreographed by Artistic Director Christopher Hampson CBE to Prokofiev’s glorious score. Set at the turn of the twentieth century in Cinders’ family-run emporium, the production updates the classic story with warmth, wit, and a distinctly modern generosity of spirit.
What sets Cinders! apart is its casting flexibility: on some nights, Cinders is a woman swept off her feet by her Prince; on others, a man swept off his feet by his Princess. The 2026 revival adds new possibilities still, with performances featuring a male Cinders with a Prince, or a female Cinders with a Princess — making the romantic heart of the story genuinely open to all.
Ideal for families and first-time ballet audiences, Cinders! combines the spectacle of full-length classical ballet with accessible storytelling and Prokofiev’s endlessly inventive music. It tours to the Festival Theatre Edinburgh, Theatre Royal Glasgow, His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen, and Eden Court Theatre Inverness across December 2026 and January 2027.
