His Majesty's Theatre is a category A listed proscenium arch theatre, designed by celebrated architect Frank Matcham and opened in December 1906. Built from Aberdeen's distinctive granite, the theatre features a striking single green dome and stands prominently on Rosemount Viaduct, opposite Union Terrace Gardens, making it a beloved city landmark for over a century.

The theatre was constructed as part of a visionary development of the Rosemount Viaduct, which also led to the creation of Aberdeen Central Library and St Mark's Church. Matcham's design combines Baroque styling externally with Italian Renaissance interiors, creating an elegant and intimate performance space. The auditorium showcases exceptional acoustic properties and ornate period details that reflect the grandeur of Edwardian theatre design.

With a seating capacity of 1,400, His Majesty's Theatre is the largest performing arts venue in north-east Scotland. It operates as a fully equipped producing and receiving theatre, hosting international touring companies, nationally acclaimed artists, and Scottish talent across drama, dance, musical theatre, and pantomime. The Terrace bar and café provide a welcoming pre-show and interval experience, while modern amenities and accessibility provisions ensure all visitors can enjoy world-class performances in this historic venue.
