Biography
Joseph Sissens is a British Principal of The Royal Ballet, promoted in 2024. Born in Cambridge, he trained at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts before joining The Royal Ballet School. He graduated into the company in 2016 and made his soloist debut in Ashton's Symphonic Variations at just 19.
Sissens is known for his elegant line, long limbs, and refined classical form alongside a natural versatility in contemporary work. His notable roles include Mercutio and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Lensky in Onegin, and Lescaut in Manon. He created roles in Crystal Pite's Flight Pattern and Light of Passage, Wayne McGregor's The Dante Project, and Robert Binet's Void and Fire. In 2024 he curated the inaugural Legacy gala at the Linbury Theatre, celebrating Black and Brown excellence in ballet.
