Biography

Sae Maeda is a Japanese First Soloist of The Royal Ballet, promoted in 2024 — one of the fastest risers in the company's recent history. Born in Yokohama, she began dancing at age seven and won a second-prize Prix de Lausanne scholarship to The Royal Ballet School in 2014. She joined the company's Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme in 2017.

Maeda won the Critics' Circle Emerging Dancer Award in 2023, the year of her promotion to Soloist. Known for her lightness, musical instinct, and expressive warmth, her roles include Olga in Onegin, Perdita in The Winter's Tale, and Princess Florine in The Sleeping Beauty.
