Biography

Vadim Muntagirov is a Principal of The Royal Ballet, born in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He trained at the Perm Ballet School before completing his studies at The Royal Ballet Upper School. He began his professional career with English National Ballet, where he was rapidly promoted through First Soloist (2010), Principal (2011), and Lead Principal (2012), before joining The Royal Ballet as a Principal in March 2014.

Muntagirov is widely considered one of the finest classical danseurs of his generation, distinguished by the refinement of his line, the musicality of his phrasing, and his ability to illuminate the inner life of every role he inhabits. His interpretations of the major male classical leads — Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, Des Grieux in Manon, and Crown Prince Rudolf in Mayerling — have attracted consistent international recognition.

His awards span multiple organisations: Outstanding Male Performance (Classical) at the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards (2011), the Benois de la Danse (2013 and 2018), Best Male Dancer at the Critics' Circle (2015 and 2018), and the Dance Europe Outstanding Dancer Award (2021).

Muntagirov was a longtime partner of Alina Cojocaru at ENB before developing significant partnerships at The Royal Ballet with Marianela Nuñez and others.
